Roadblocks are sometimes set up in an attempt to stop us from achieving a dream. But here’s the thing about a roadblock: you can take a detour. All too often, we just stop and turn around, not realizing that we can simply take another road to our destination. We can take a detour and show our children that they can do it, too. We can show them the way.
On Monday, I was made aware of a comment about my writing as a way to derail me and keep me from writing like I always do at night. For a brief second, I allowed the negativity of it to attack me, its claws grabbing my throat, causing a lump to form, as the feeling of defeat welled in my stomach and I fought for a breath. I read his words over and over again, ones that basically said that I was nothing special and that my writing wasn’t good. And there was a time when I would have listened and retreated.
