There’s so much written out there about love and how to keep it alive. I certainly don’t have all the answers about it or anything else, but I do think that like all good things, relationships are sometimes work. And in the day in and day out of life with kids, jobs, and other obligations, it often is the last thing we tend to. I’m a firm believer that love isn’t about grand gestures but about the little things.
Tonight, my husband took the top off of the Jeep and loaded the kids up for a ride in the warm, spring air. And I ran out of the door quickly, excited like the teenager I used to be, running to his car for a date. It was a fleeting feeling because we weren’t going on a date, but the feeling was there all the same.
As we started driving in the blinding sunshine of the afternoon, I realized I had forgotten my sunglasses. As we drove, I complained about the sun in my eyes and of my forgetfulness. Without giving it a second thought, my husband took his sunglasses from his face and gave them to me. As he did, my son noticed and said “Daddy, that’s so nice of you.” And if that’s not love, I’m not sure what is. Continue Reading
